History - Summer Games of Texas
Historical Background
The Games of Texas is an amateur sports festival created for athletes from throughout Texas. The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation, a nonprofit organization representing amateur athletes throughout the State of Texas, governs the Games of Texas.
Patterned after the Olympics, the Games of Texas has emphasis on the recreational athlete and the enhancement of his or her competitive experiences.
As a member of the National Congress of State Games, the T.A.A.F. Games of Texas is recognized annually by the United States Olympic Committee as having conducted an approved State Games Program.
In 1986 the first Games of Texas, held in the summer, were hosted by the City of San Antonio and consisted of ten sporting events. Since then the Summer Games of Texas have been or will be hosted by:
